Fluke Provides Head Start for the Next Generation of Skilled Trades and Technology Workers

Fluke Corporation, a global leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology, has announced that it has recognized Brian Dixon, student in the Joint Apprentice Refrigeration Training School (JARTS) at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), for outstanding achievement in the HVAC field of study.

The HVAC and Refrigeration Technician program at BCIT provides a foundation in basic refrigeration system design, installation and service, with an on-the-job experience component to support instruction. The course is two years in duration combining classroom and shop instruction with cooperative education experience in industry. The JARTS program is the Premier educator of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprentices in British Columbia. Approximately 75% of all Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprentices in British Columbia attend JARTS.

In recognition of his achievements, Brian Dixon was awarded the Fluke 116, a Multimeter specifically designed for the HVAC (heating ventilation air conditioning) technician. The compact true-rms meter includes temperature and microamp measurements to quickly troubleshoot problems with HVAC equipment and flame sensors.

“Fluke is working with apprenticeship programs and education institutions such as BCIT’s JARTS to ensure that the next generation of skilled trades and technology workers have the tools and training needed to support industry needs,” said Robin Bricker, Marketing Manager, Fluke Electronics Canada. “This award not only recognizes Brian’s achievements, but provides a reliable and durable troubleshooting tool to give him a head start in his HVAC career.”

Fluke is working to expand the reach of education beyond the classroom by giving students real world experience in vocational skills and technologies.
