Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) are applauding MPs for passing  Bill C-79 at second reading, and are urging parliamentarians to quickly ratify and implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
“This represents a huge opportunity for Canadian farmers and agricultural equipment manufacturers,” says Richelle Andreas, chair of AMC’s board of directors. “Shortline manufacturers help keep rural economies strong, employing approximately 12,000 people primarily in communities less than 10,000. AMC fully supports the quick implementation of the CPTPP to strengthen trade with key international markets and increase export opportunity within the industry.”
The agreement will provide access to 10 critical markets, including AustraliaBruneiChileJapanMalaysiaMexicoNew ZealandPeruSingapore, and Vietnam.
Canadian agriculture equipment manufacturers export $1.9 billion worth of farm equipment to over 150 countries and meet the demands of Canadian farmers who grow crops and raise livestock in harsh conditions hence making Canadian-made farm equipment some of the best in the world.
Implementing the CPTPP will further the industry’s growth and success, states AMC.
The AMC is a national, member-driven organization dedicated to sustaining a strong, viable and highly respected Canadian agricultural manufacturing industry. With nearly 300 members, our mission is to foster and promote the growth and development of the agricultural equipment manufacturing industry in Canada.
