OPIsystems of Calgary has announced a new investment agreement with Alberta Innovates to support design and development of high-tech grain management and monitoring systems.

“The investment support of Alberta Innovates in our research and business innovation will help us bring our ideas and innovations to market faster,” says Dave Crompton, CEO of OPIsystems Inc.

“This is an organization that expands the horizon of possibilities to solve today’s challenges and create a more prosperous future for Alberta and the world, a vision which directly aligns with ours.”

With the support from Alberta Innovates, OPIsystems plans to develop an IoT Grain Management Bin that will drive increased adoption of grain management systems by developing a low-cost solution that is easier to understand and use. Beginning with a CO2 sensor, the company will transition their legacy components to modern, cost-effective IoT devices.

“Ten to 20 percent of crops grown annually are lost post-harvest,” Crompton says. “These developments will help advance our goal of supporting producers in their effort to reduce or eliminate storage losses.”

Alberta Innovates is the province’s largest research and innovation agency.
