Unifor delegates from the aluminum sector will meet with MPs from all parties to urge action to address the 10 per cent tariff imposed on Canadian producers by the United States.
“The U.S. imposed tariffs under the false pretense of security and the Trump administration has dragged its heels removing them to score political points with its base,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias. “With the conclusion of the American mid-term election Canada must send a strong, united message that all unjust tariffs must end immediately.”
Unifor will meet with government and opposition MPs to demand the full removal of U.S. aluminum tariffs on current Canadian exports without any quantity restrictions or limitations on Canadian export growth.
Additionally, the union is asking MPs to commit to work with the U.S. and other allies to confront the challenge of a global aluminum surplus, in a constructive, multilateral forum.
