Closed loop linear actuator operates at high torque

Applied Motion Products has introduced a closed-loop linear actuator that creates peak torques up to 50 percent higher than holding torque. TBSM11 linear actuators are said to accelerate and decelerate faster, and only draw current when needed to run cooler and more quietly than conventional step motor-based linear actuators.

Based on StepSERVO Integrated Motor technology, the linear actuator features a ball screw shaft and nut assembly instead of a motor shaft, which eliminates the need for a coupling. Ball screws and lead screws are available in a range of leads and stroke lengths.

The unit provides more than 20 lb of thrust force with position resolution of 0.005 mm per full step.
