Metal face proximity sensors resist damage

Products detection

Non-ferrous metal detection is becoming more widespread thanks to trends toward lighter metals like aluminum. Detecting these metals — especially aluminum — typically requires short detection distances, which can increase potential for sensor damage.

The Omron E2EW series metal face proximity sensors are said to minimize sensor damage and equipment downtime by supporting both ferrous and non-ferrous metal detection with factor 1 sensing at exceptionally long distances.

The new sensors also feature weld immunity and IO-Link. Key features of the series include:

  • 1x, 3x and 4x sensing ranges for M18 and M30 barrel sizes;
  • Factor 1 sensing — the 3x and 4x sensors can detect non-ferrous metals at the same distance as iron;
  • weld field immunity; and,
  • increased spatter resistance with a proprietary coating that reduces slag buildup and is said to last 60x longer than previous spatter coated models.
