The PositionMaster EDP300 from ABB is an electronically configurable positioner with communication capabilities designed for mounting to linear or rotary actuators. The latest generation of Smart Valve positioners also includes “Extended Diagnostics”, providing the user with the opportunity to perform selectable valve performance diagnostics and to schedule predictive control valve maintenance. The Speed over Position Test records the sliding friction of the actuator and valve. Problems such as high stem packing friction can be detected and corrected prior to the valve being returned to service. The Valve Signature measures the output pressure to the valve actuator so the user can learn about the sliding and static friction of the valve.
