The British Columbia government has begun accepting applications for its $100-million fund to help with cleaning up oil and gas wells. The province is in the process of receiving $120 million from the federal government, which was announced last April as $1.7 billion investment to help Alberta, B.C., and Saskatchewan with inactive wells.
The B.C. government intends to clean up 8,500 wells that have not been active for more than five years and will provide companies up to $100,000 or 50 per cent of the costs associate with a site cleanup.
