Alberta energy adviser Ed Whittingham has resigned from the board of the provincial energy regulator.

The prominent environmental policy expert – who became a target for Canadian politician Jason Kenney during Alberta’s recent election campaign – announced yesterday he was stepping down, according to the Globe and Mail.

In response to premier-elect Kenney’s comments during the campaign, he pointed out that getting rid of limits on oil sands emissions will revive international opposition to the industry.
