Pepperl+Fuchs now offers fully certified, UL Type 4X rated cable glands for explosion protection equipment as part of its total solutions offering.  NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) establishes the performance criteria intended for specific environments, and these performance criteria and test methods are then used by the American safety consulting company, Underwriters Laboratory (UL).

Suitable for use in Div 2, Pepperl+Fuchs’ Type 4X rated cable glands are designed to withstand some of the harshest conditions in process automation, including extreme temperatures, total washdown, and exposure to corrosive materials. They are available for hazardous areas and general industry; can accommodate armored and non-armored cabling; and are offered in nickel-plated brass and stainless steel.

“Our cable glands are extremely durable and simple to install,” says Brent Dean, product manager for explosion protection equipment at Pepperl+Fuchs. “The Type 4X rating enables us to build and certify our solutions for global use in a wide range of rugged industrial applications commonly found in refining and chemical industries. Using our cable glands in their process automation solutions affords our customers reduced inventory and increased uptime.”

Cable glands from Pepperl+Fuchs are renowned for their uniform design and internally secured armor clamps, which prevent the glands from falling apart when opened. Secured fittings prevent losing critical internal pieces during assembly/disassembly, and a triple sealing insert prevents water intrusion and offers one of the largest clamping ranges on the market.

With the new Type 4X rating, Pepperl+Fuchs now offers glands that are ATEX and IECEx certified and UL listed. This eliminates the need for customers to place separate orders, endure long lead times, and seek third-party certifications. Cable glands are offered individually or in kits, and are also available for on-line purchase.
