Real gross domestic product rose for a seventh consecutive month, edging up 0.1% in August, according Statistics Canada. Growth was concentrated in oil and gas extraction and finance and insurance, which more than offset declines in 12 of 20 industrial sectors.

Irving Oil and Saint John Emergency Measures Organization officials have said four workers were treated at the Saint John Regional Hospital for minor injuries after an explosion at the Saint John, NB, Irving refinery on October 8, according to the CBC. Shell Canada Energy, an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell plc, has announced it has taken a final investment decision (FID) on LNG Canada, a major liquified natural gas (LNG) project in Kitimat, BC, in which Shell has a 40 percent working interest. With LNG Canada’s joint venture participants also having taken FID, construction will start immediately with first LNG expected before the middle of the next decade.
